Resolution adopted by the Porter County Commissioners against the Illiana Toll Road, Feb. 20, 2007
RESOLUTION 0702
WHEREAS the proposed Illiana Expressway could run through the center of South Porter County;
WHEREAS the porposed Illiana Expressway and the construction of it will require the taking and loss of hundreds of acres of farm land in South Porter County;
WHEREAS the proposed building of the Illiana Expressway would encourage rapid residential and commercial devleopment in South Porter County and would completely change the present rural residential atmosphere of South Porter County;
WHEREAS the building of the proposed Illiana Expressway would hinder the quality of life enjoyed by those in South Porter County;
IT IS THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Porter County Board of Commissioners are on record as opposed to this project and call on all the Senators and Representatives in the State of Indiana and especially those from Porter County to take a stand against this project in order to protect the quality of life of the citizens of South Porter County.

Note: County Commissioner John Evans voted against this resolution. He stated at the meeting that he opposes the Illiana tollroad in Porter County, but that he does not oppose the Illiana overall. He voiced support for Sen. Vic Heinold's alternative proposal to route the Illiana farther south, outside of Porter County.
